Alright, I’ll live, but I won’t enjoy it.

Issues with the package of cups-pdf for the Mac. Not issues with cups-pdf itself.

The web page says to edit /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf but I can’t find such a file.

Is there any support for customizing the PDF metadata included with the outputted PDF files.

As in a previous post I cannot get cups-pdf to work with anything other than OpenOffice, it just gives me an “error while printing” message. When this happens, I also cannot print to the Mac native PDF (Save as PDF), it gives the same generic “error while printing” message. If I remove the printer, then I can print using the Mac native save as PDF system.

Since I can use the Mac native “save as PDF” then I would like to completely remove the cups-pdf file(s) from my system.

Would anyone know how I would go about doing this? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Just wondering if anyone experienced the “Error while printing” from Safari and/or Firefox (latest versions) while trying to print to PDF using cups-pdf 2.4.6. I’m using OS X 10.4.10. I’ve tried deleting and adding the printer numerous times and also Repair Disk Permissions but to no avail. Cups-pdf DOES work when printing documents, spreadsheets, etc. from OpenOffice. It also DOES NOT work for me when printing from TextEdit, same result “Error while printing” Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on? Thanks in advance!

I was having problems with printing PDFs and so updated to CUPS-PDF 2.4.6. It solved the problem but added another. The addition of unique job numbers has thrown a wrench into my workflow. Before adding another script to remove the job number, is there a setting that I can change to revert to the old behavior of CUPS-PDF?

I downloaded cups-pdf 2.4.6, and installed the package. But, I cannot find this printer to add it. Virtual printers do not show up in Printer Setup Utility. If i do a Option-click on More Printers…, and select Advanced, cups-pdf is not available in the Device menu. I’ve repaired permissions, logged out, and restarted, but the problem remains. I’ve also looked at system.log and console.log in Console.app. I’d appreciate any other troubleshootind advice. This sounds like a great app, but I won’t know until I can try it out.

edit: I am running OS X 10.4.10 on a G4 PowerBook.

I do have some PDF’s of which I would like to have a copy w/o password. I have the password to access them & print them, but my idea was to virtually print them in order to have them as a PDF w/o password so that spotlight can index them? Your CUPS-PDF works like a charm for normal files but when I print my protected after the password was entered the file goes in the cups folder and then disappears directly? Any idea what I could do?

I’ve been playing around with the PPD file that you distribute with this, but for the life of me cannot get it to print edge to edge PDF documents. I’m no expert on PPD files, so some help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, I have a word document with a watermark that goes right to the edge of the page. Word doesn’t complain about printing this to a normal printer, and the result is nice edge to edge printouts. But if people want to create a letter in PDF form to send electronically there is still a margin around the document.

I’ve played around with the various A4 page size options, and have looked at the PPD files of other printers to see what they do for edge to edge printing. Replicating this doesn’t seem to want to work either. Is it possible to get edge to edge printing by simply altering the PPD file? or is the software just not capable of it?Read more
