Newton had a bad trip, and now there’s calculus.

Version 2.4.0 (from 2.0.5):

  • fixed possible read access after end of string

  • fixed recognition of international characters

  • experimental option to decode hex strings in title (NK)

  • new option to remove prefixes from usernames

  • minor bugfix to read umasks properly

  • new option to select where to look for title

  • some code changes and optimizations

This version is a universal binary and runs on PPC and Intel Macs.

CUPS-PDF is a double-clickable Mac binary distribution of the original version for other Unix-based machines.

I was unable to make this work on my G5 iMac. I think I followed the directions. When I print, it appears in the dock, and the printer window shows the job, but the status bar just keeps churning and nothing shows up in the folder.

My experience is the same – the printer is created no problem, and print jobs are shown in the print monitor as having been successfully completed, but there’s no PDF file output anywhere I can see. Even a test-file sent directly through CUPS admin produces no end-result. Have reinstalled, fixed permissions, restarted etc etc etc…

  1. Open Console
  2. Show the /var/log/cups/error_log log
  3. Hit clear
  4. Print something
  5. Copy and paste anything that happens into this form including your processor type and OS version

Also, I did the following and reinstalled the package and it still worked over here (MacBook Pro, 10.4.6).

sudo rm /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf
sudo rm /usr/libexec/cups/backend/cups-pdf
sudo rm /usr/share/cups/model/PostscriptColor.ppd
sudo rm -r /var/spool/cups-pdf

So it’s only some folks, from the sounds of it. Do the above and please tell me if it works for you.

I tried to install the latest version of CUPS-PDF and this is the error message I got:
May 29 22:47:30 mithoos-PowerBook-G4-17 : Install failed: The following install step failed: run postflight script for CUPS-PDF for Mac OS X

Just restart and you’ll be okay.
